Tribesman is an independently operated race shaped by the River Corrib and the character of the West. Athletes travel here from across Ireland and beyond, each bringing their own people and their own reason to race.
In 2027, The West Awakens brings them together. From race-morning gathering to the welcome at the finish, athletes, volunteers, families, and supporters become the Tribesman tribe.

One of two Gaelic-origin Tribes; lawyer Patrick Darcy shaped Confederate Ireland's constitution.
Deane
Edmond Deane served as Galway's mayor from 1502 to 1504.
Ffont
Geoffrey Font, born in 1709, was remembered as a Galway centenarian.

Seán an tSalainn French served as mayor of Galway in 1538-39.
Joyce
Richard Joyce is traditionally credited with creating the Claddagh ring.
Kirwan
A Gaelic-origin family; Joseph W. Kirwan became the first president of Queen's College Galway.
Lynch
Dominick Dubh Lynch served as Galway's second mayor in the 15th century.
Martin
Family members included Edward Martyn, a political and cultural activist.
Morris
Michael Morris, 3rd Baron Killanin, later led the International Olympic Committee.

Start from the jetty opposite Menlo Castle, swim a short stretch upstream, then turn downstream towards transition.

A flat, fast out-and-back course along the Moycullen bypass.
